Random July

We've been a little busy this summer and so have not shared our pix with you. So here are a few from earlier in the month and also from today to make up for it.

We are not sure if he hurt himself or not. He seemed to be a little dazed and confused. Prior to this he had been chasing a squirrel in the crab apple tree and had dropped/fallen out of it.

Young Hawk

This immature Redtail Hawk greeted us in the driveway when we got home today. He was kind enough to let us park, get out of the car, grabbed our camera and returned to the driveway to shoot these.

Excitement and New Beginnings

It has been a busy weekend here at Yardisabi. Beds have been raked out, leaves blown and even a brick patio repaired.

Here are some shots of the excitement and evidence of new beginnings here. All taken Sunday April 10th 2011.

We look happy that winter is finally over. The birds at the feeder seem to be ok with us being in the yard ten feet away. Maybe it's their way of saying thanks for the 50 pounds of free food this winter. [sarah]

Not sure what these are but they are they are everywhere. Since we both take pictures of them I am not even sure whose picture this is.

First, another woodpecker from our yard.

I believe this is a female Downy Woodpecker [skip]

And now some shots taken from the back of school during snack time.

It was soon after this was taken that the male in the foreground moved behind the female, jumped up putting his front legs on her back and gave her a "back rub". The kids were not watching. [skip]

I was struck the the iridescence of the feathers. [skip]

Red-Tailed Hawk

We've been trying to get a picture of this one for awhile but have never been in the right place at the right time. Today I was in sort of the right place and the right time.

Appears to be a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk. [skip]

Three Peckers, Three Minutes

These are from this morning. As the snow melts, more and more layers of birdseed, thrown out during the snow storms that have left us snow on the ground since December 24th, become exposed. The birds are loving it.

These woodpeckers were all at the feeder this morning, taking shifts, over for three or four minutes.

This is an Adult Female Downy Woodpecker [skip] 

Pretty Sure this is a male Hairy Woodpecker but it is different from the other one above. [skip]
